The Association of Ministers with Disabilities (AMD) is committed to helping churches become places where all people—including clergy with disabilities and chronic health conditions—are welcomed, supported, and empowered to flourish in ministry. This growing collection of practical resource guides equips congregations, Staff-Parish Relations Committees, and church leaders with best practices for accessibility, inclusion, accommodations, and pastoral support. Topics include autism, ADHD, chronic health conditions, physical disabilities, Deaf and hard of hearing clergy, blindness and low vision, cognitive impairments, dementia, mental health conditions, depression, clergy who are newly disabled, clergy who are caregivers for family members with disabilities, and partnering with Vocational Rehabilitation or it’s equivalent. Persons unsure of what accommodations are needed for their disability may wish to speak to their healthcare provider and/or explore the Job Accommodations Network (JAN) or disability specific organizations (see JAN) for ideas. Together, these resources encourage churches to remove barriers, celebrate the gifts of every clergy, and embody the inclusive love of Christ by creating ministry environments where all clergy can faithfully answer God’s call.
